The Scholastic Student Writing Awards is an annual literary competition for children across the country. Children between the ages of ten and fifteen are asked to write short stories or non-fiction pieces. These are judged in the elimination round by school teachers, and in the final round by well-established authors. Not only do the winners get wonderful prizes, a selection of the prize-winning entries are published every June as For Kids By Kids: Best of the Scholastic Writing Awards.

Original entries from the students of Class 4 to 9
Category for 2012
Group 1 (Class 4-6): 1200-2000 words
Group 2 9Classes 7-9) 2000-2500 words
Topic for both Group 1 and Group 2
Choose one of the following themes and write an original short story using that thems.
- Lost
- Waiting (for someone or something)
- Running away
- A secret
Best 25 entries will be selected. Top 3 from these will receive the following prizes.
First: Scholastic book hamper worth Rs 10, 000
Second: Scholastic book hamper worth Rs 7, 500
Third: Scholastic book hamper worth Rs 5, 000
The top 25 will receive a certificate of honour. All others will get Certificate of Participation.
