Malayala Manorama Yuva Mastermind Contest


Entries have been invited for the Malayala Manorama Yuva Mastermind Contest for inventions by college and school students. The contest is for science and technology projects that can be exhibited as working models. Study projects that cannot be exhibited will not be considered.

The prize money for the college level is as follows:

  • Rs 1 lakh (1st prize)
  •  Rs 60,000 (2nd prize)
  •  Rs 40,000 (3rd prize). 

The prize mone for the school level is Rs 50,000 (1st prize), Rs 30,000 (2nd prize), Rs 20,000 (3rd prize). Considering the feasibility, novelty and social relevance a financial assistance will be provided to 25 teams each selected from college and school levels for the completion of the project. The maximum financial assistance based on project estimate for college teams would be Rs 10,000 while that for school teams would be Rs 7500.

Eligibility
Students of professional colleges in the state including medical and engineering, technical institutes like ITI and polytechnic and art and science colleges can participate under the college category.
Students of 9th standard to Plus Two can compete under the school category.

A team shall have a maxiumum of five students and a project guide who should be a teacher/lecturer in the same institution.
Any number of teams from an institution can compete, but a team will be allowed to present only one project.
The project should be completed within a period of three months.

Based on the the short project description provided by teams and the interaction with them by an expert committee 25 teams would be selected from each category. The expert committee would select the winners after an exibition to be held in January 2014.

The contest is being organised with technical support from Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) of Amaljyothi Engineering College, Kanjirappally. Amaljyothi is the only college in the state which has been granted an IEDC by the central science and technology department.

Inventions for saving energy will be eligible for special awards instituted in the name of Prof Satheesh John by Amaljyothi Engineering College.
Prize winning projects with safety as theme will be eligible for a special prize of Rs 60,000 (college level) and Rs 40,000 (school level).
