This event is designed to provide an opportunity for children worldwide to understand Asian people’s daily lives through illustrated diaries. Children from 24 different countries and region in Asia will draw their illustrated diaries under the theme of “Here is my Life”. You are invited to participate in this event to let friends in Asia know about your life and culture thorough your ve-page illustrated diaries.
WHAT IS AN “ENIKKI” (ILLUSTRATED DIARY)?
In Japan there is a custom of creating “Enikki” (Illustrated Diary) that portray daily events and thoughts in the form of a picture and a short essay. In an “Enikki” the author not only draws/paints and writes about things he/she has seen, heard, done or thought, but also describes his/her rich culture and sensibility. “Enikki” can be a very effective means for crosscultural understanding.
FESTIVAL SCHEDULE:
(1) Entry period: July 1 to October 31, 2017, (2) National Screening: Up to November 2017, (3) International Screening: April 2018, Announcement of Award: May 2018, (5) Award Ceremony and Cultural Exchange Program: July-August 2018 (tentative) to be held in Yokohama, Japan
THEME: “Here is my life” Any subjects can be chosen from daily life. You can describe what you did, saw, experienced or had in mind in your daily life that you want your Asian friends to know and understand, such as nature, climate, favorite games, family, friends, school life, local festivals and traditional performing arts etc.
ELIGIBILITY: Children aged 6 - 12 at the time of entry
FORMAT: A4-size paper (vertical) (210 × 297 millimeters or 8.27 × 11.69 inches) with the picture at the top (2/3rd of the page), and the essay below (1/3rd of the page).The essay should be about 3 to
5 lines only to be written below the picture (as shown in the sample). Please do not use the back side for writing the essay. You may use paint, color pencils or crayons etc. for the picture. Please note that one entry consists of ve separate pages.
ENTRY PROCEDURES:
Make sure your name is written on the back of each page and that you have numbered them (on the back) from 1 to 5. Put these pages together with the entry and translation forms. Deliver or mail them at the given address.
In case the essay has been written in native language (other than Hindi or English), get it translated in English or Hindi language by your teacher/parents, in the translation form.
Please make sure that the duly lled Entry and Translation FoForms are attached with your 5 paintings with essay. All entries should
be certied by the school headmaster/principal as the original art work drawn/painted and essay written by the participant himself/herself.
Please understand clearly that 5 paintings with essay by one child means ONE entry and every entry should be accompanied by duly lled entry form and translation form.
Essays written by the participants should be neatly re-written or typed in the “Form of Translation” in English or Hindi by the student/parent/teacher with notes or explanation of proper nouns. Teacher in-charge should write brief comments about the art work and essay written by the child (see the attached sample). Do not cut and paste using glue or stapler. Do not laminate the entries.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER
(1) Applicant’s work must be original artwork in every sense and should not have made public at all. The entry shall be disqualied if the work includes any of the followings which may infringe any other person’s copyrights. (2) Applicant’s work must be manually created, i.e the picture must be drawn or painted and essay be written by the participants himself/herself. Any digital artwork or
typed or word-processed essays will be disqualied. (3) It is not necessary that the children make drawings & write essays in the school in presence of the teacher, they may do it as homework.
While selecting ve best entries at school level, keep in mind the given selection criteria Please do not make:- (i) Any copy or reproduction of picture, cartoons, sentences etc. that may infringe trademark and/or portrait rights. (ii) Cut-out of anything, printed materials, newspapers, magazine and advertisements.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The Screening Committee will judge not only the artworks but also look at how you portray your culture, your daily life as well as your impressions and thoughts, such as: [i] How much the Enikki shows the features unique to the country or region, such as culture, national characters, local customs, local life, local nature and environment.[ii] How much the Enikki demonstrates the sensitivity or viewpoints unique to the child.[iii] How much the Enikki has the workmanship of concept, construction, and carefulness. [iv] How much the Enikki covers a variety of topic?
SELECTION METHOD
School Screening Committee
The rst level screening of the entries should be done at the school only, for which a screening Committee comprising of an arts teacher, a language teacher and school principal as chairperson, should be appointed. The School Screening Committee should select 5 best entries and send them to the local organizer for National Level Screening along with lled Entry and Translation Forms.
However send the complete list of all participating children, with full particulars (name, class, age, sex, duly signed by the school principal) as certificates will be given to all participating children.
National Screening Committee
The National Screening Committee will consist of individuals whose work is related to art and literature They will evaluate and select 8 entries (Enikki) for the International Organizers Award based on the selection criteria and 200-300 entries for the local organizer’s awards.
International Screening Committee
The selected 8 original entries (Enikki) will be sent to Japan for ad judgment by the International Screening Committee consisting of renowned artists & academics for International Organizers Award.
*Please note that entries sent to the organizers will not be returned. The right to the Enikki (Illustrated Diaries) and its use in any manner is held by organizers.
AWARDS
Grand Prix Award (one)
Winner will receive trophy and Commemorative Medal and will be invited (with one guardian for 4-5 days) to Award Ceremony and a cultural exchange program to be held in Yokohama, Japan. (In case unexpected events happen, the tour will be cancelled at the sole discretion of the organizers and the possible participants will receive commemorative goods instead.)
International Organizer’s Award (seven)
Mitsubishi Public Affairs Committee Award (one), Asia Pacic Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations (AFUCA) Award (one), National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan Award (one) and Excellence Award (four) Winners will receive certicates of the award and commemorative gifts (through the local organizer).
Local Organizer’s Award (Two hundred to Three hundred)
Confederation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations of India (CUCAI) Award winners will receive certicates of the award and commemorative gifts.
