The Indian Oil Corporation in association with The Hindu in School will conduct an essay competition for school students in connection with the observance of Swachh Bharat initiative. The competition is open for students of classes 6 to 8 in all schools in and around Kochi city.

ELS Educational Services, in association with the United Nations and Global Youth Forum, is organising the third edition of ‘Many Languages, One World’ student essay contest.

60 Students will be selected as delegates to the 2016 United Nations Academic Impact Global Youth Forum, 25-31 July, 2016, where they will create action plans related to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The students will present these action plans at United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
Airfare, Room and Meals will be provided by ELS Educational Services, Inc. at Hofstra University.

Full-time college or university students
Must be 18 years of age or older by the contest deadline.

How to Participate
Write an original essay (2,000 words or less) discussing global citizenship and cultural understanding and the role that multilingual ability can play in fostering these.
The essay should reflect your personal, academic, cultural and national context. Essays must be written in an official language of the United Nations that is not your first language or primary language of instruction during your primary or secondary education.
The official United Nations languages are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. You will need to demonstrate both written and verbal competency in the language of the essay.

A Faculty Member or other Authorized Representative of the institution is required to complete a Reference Form attesting that the Entrant is a current full-time student of the institution in good standing, that the essay is written in a language that is not the Entrant’s first language or the principal language of instruction during the Entrant’s primary or secondary education, and that the entry is the Entrant's original, unaided work. Entries must be uploaded in MS Word format to the website ManyLanguagesOneWorld.ELS.edu by 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, 31 March, 2016.

Submissions are now being accepted for the 32nd Eisaku Sato Essay Contest. This international contest is open to anyone who has an interest in both the United Nations University and the designated contest topic.

The theme of the 2016 contest is:

“Considering the multiple and pressing challenges the United Nations faces today, what is the proper role of the Secretary-General as top international public servant? Discuss the required qualities and discipline of a Secretary-General in view of the practices and achievements of the successive Secretary-Generals.”

Essays may be written in either English (3,000–6,000 words) or Japanese (8,000–16,000 characters). All essays should be printed on A4-size paper and include an abstract of up to 450 words (English) or 1,200 characters (Japanese).

The Eisaku Sato Essay Contest was inaugurated in 1980, and has been held annually since 1990. It is organized by the Eisaku Sato Memorial Foundation for Cooperation with the United Nations University, which was established by the late Eisaku Sato, former Prime Minister of Japan, with the monetary award that he received with his 1974 Nobel Peace Prize.


Eligibility
This international contest is open to anyone who has an interest in both the United Nations University and the designated contest topic. There are no restrictions as to age, nationality or profession.

Awards
A grand prize (¥500,000), a second prize (¥200,000) and several honorable mentions (¥50,000 each) will be awarded. The winners will be notified by September 2016.

Application
To enter the 2016 Eisaku Sato Essay Contest, submit your essay along with a cover sheet listing your name, affiliation, age, gender, nationality, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone/fax number (if available), and a note on how you learned about the contest.

The deadline for submissions is midnight (Japan Time) on 31 March 2016.

Procedure for participation:

4. Every entry may be attested, with the name of the student in full, class, name of school, and title of the essay, on the top of the first page.

In order to trace India’s historical relations with other Asian countries, the National Book Trust, an
autonomous organization under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India
along with the support of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) is organizing an Essay
writing competition under the Shodh Yatri Contest for the students of Classes X and XI.

1. For participation, the eligible participants have to fill an application form and submit an essay
of 5000 words in PDF on any one of the following specified themes on www.mygov.in:

a. Shodh Yatri to Sri Lanka (Search for Buddha’s Footprints)
b. Shodh Yatri to Thailand (Search for India’s contribution)
c. Shodh Yatri to Myanmar (Burma)
d. Shodh Yatri to Bangladesh (Search for Martyrs and Freedom Fighters)
e. Shodh Yatri to Cambodia (Angkor Vat)

2. A write up on any one of the identified themes has to be further developed by the participants
while submitting the essay. The participant has to explain in 1000 words about his/her own idea
on the proposed visit, and how they would utilize the experience gained.
3. The selected entries will be interviewed on skype ,and 10 winning entries will be finalized along
with a list of waitlisted candidates.
4. The final winning entries will be awarded with a visit to the concerned Asian country for about a
week as a part of a team. After the visit, the candidates have to submit a write-up on his/her
Shodh Yatra within a fortnight and submit it to the Director, National Book Trust. The write-up
will be published by the National Book Trust with appropriate modifications.

On 26th November 1949, the constitution was adopted and came into force on January 26, 1950, marking the beginning of a new era in the history of India. Schools are celebrating 26th November, 2015 as the Constitution Day. Various activities have been organized by them. To promote a clear understanding and awareness about the constitution and to make the younger generation know the salient features and the importance of the constitution of India, the Central Board of Secondary Education announces an Online Essay Competition on the Constitution of India.

The details of this Essay Competition are as follow:
i. To be conducted from 28th -30th November, 2015.
 ii. The three categories of participation are: a) Classes I to V, b) Classes VI to VIII and c) Classes IX to XII
iii. Topics are given in Annexure I
iv. Entries may be submitted in any one of the 22 scheduled languages and English.
v. Entries may be submitted using any of the three following modes:

vii. The links and Mobile App for submission of entry shall remain activated from 09:00 hrs in morning to 21:00 hrs in night on 28th, 29th and 30th November, 2015.
viii. The students may submit entries from school, home or a place as per their convenience.
 ix. Entries submitted through email/ by post will not be considered.
x. Best 36 entries, best 12 entries from each category, shall be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 2500/- and a Certificate of Merit.
xi. Each participant will get a Certificate of Participation.
xii. Selection of best entries will be on the basis of originality of content and creative expression. Students may be contacted telephonically on the phone numbers provided by them to ascertain the originality of the entry submitted.

he Hindu In School is organising an essay writing contest presented by Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). Camlin Kokuyo is the writing partner.
The contest is open to students of Class VIII to X
Interested schools from Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru and Hyderabad can register at reach.inschool@thehindu.co.in with the Subject ‘Registration for LIC Essay Writing Contest’ mentioning the name of the school and number of participants. Priority will be given to the first 50 schools that register.

Contests at the schools will take place between November 27 and December 12. Students will get 30 minutes to write on ‘Insured family is a secured family’, in not more than 150 words. Three entries per school will qualify for the city level. Of these, three winners will be declared per city.

Interested schools in cities other than the ones mentioned can send their request to the same email id mentioning the number of students wishing to participate. The request has to be sent before December 5 with the subject: ‘LIC Essay Writing Contest – ROR’. Three overall winners will be selected from the total entries.
